- Pattern RecognitionPattern Sequence
Rows of tiles that change by rule. Name every change, apply it once more, and the missing tile is the only option that fits.
- Abstract ReasoningMatrix Reasoning
Raven-style 3x3 grids. Find the rules in the rows and columns, describe the missing tile, then find it among eight options.
- Spatial ReasoningMental Rotation
Same shape or mirror image? Turn the figure in your head, follow one landmark, and the mirror images give themselves away.
- Spatial ReasoningOdd One Out
Six figures, one that breaks the rule. Ignore what varies on purpose and look for what five of them share.
- Quantitative ReasoningNumber Series
12, 15, 20, 27, 36, 47, ?
Five numbers and a blank. Look at the gaps first; they almost always give the rule away.
- Logical ReasoningFigure Analogy
A is to B as C is to what? Name every change in the first pair, then apply exactly those changes to the third panel.

The missing tile has two outlined diamonds (option 7).
How to solve it
- Start with the first column and name what changes from tile to tile.
- Every row and every column contains each shape (star, diamond and square) exactly once.
- Every row and every column contains each number of shapes (two, three and one) exactly once.
- The fill (outline) stays the same in every tile.
- Check the rules on the second column, then apply them to the third.
- So the missing tile has two outlined diamonds.

Questions
Are these real IQ test questions?
They are made by the same generator as the IQ Octopus test, in the same six formats. The test itself creates fresh items for every attempt, so these exact puzzles will not appear in it.
Do practice puzzles raise your IQ?
Practice makes the formats familiar, and retaking cognitive tests raises scores by about a quarter of a standard deviation on average. That is familiarity with the test, not a change in underlying ability.
Which puzzle type should I start with?
Pattern sequences are the gentlest introduction. Matrix reasoning is the largest section of the test, so it is worth the most practice.
