Which tile completes the grid?
Tap the option you think is right, or show the answer.
Show the answer
The missing tile has the right edge, bottom edge, left edge, top-left corner tick and bottom-right corner tick (option 6).
How to solve it
- Start with the first row and name what changes from tile to tile.
- In each row, the third tile keeps the lines that appear in exactly one of the first two tiles. Lines that appear in both cancel out.
- Check the rules on the second row, then apply them to the third.
- So the missing tile has the right edge, bottom edge, left edge, top-left corner tick and bottom-right corner tick.
About this puzzle
Hard grids use line overlays: the third tile in each row keeps only the lines that appear in exactly one of the first two tiles. It was generated by the same engine that builds the IQ Octopus test, from a fixed seed, so it stays the same every time you visit. In the real test, items like this are generated fresh for every attempt.
