Privacy policy

The short version

• We store your answers, how long each one took, and the email you use at checkout.
• A few things are optional and stored only if you give them: your IQ guess, an age range, a name for your certificate, and an email for your result link before you pay.
• We do not run ads and we do not sell personal data.
• You do not need an account. You can take the test without giving us any personal details.
• Stripe processes payments. We never see or store your card number.
• You can ask us to delete your data at any time by emailing support@iqoctopus.com.

Who we are

IQ Octopus is run by Sourdough AI LLC, 223 Child St, Warren, RI 02885, United States. In this policy, “we” means Sourdough AI LLC.

What we collect

When you take the test

We store the puzzles generated for your attempt, the option you chose for each one, how long you spent on each, and when you started and finished. We use this to score your test and show your result.

Before the first puzzle you can guess your IQ and pick an age range. Both are optional. We store them with the attempt to show your guess next to your result and, in aggregate, to understand who takes the test.

To prevent abuse, such as automated attempts, we may store a one-way hash of your IP address and your browser's user agent string with the attempt. A hash cannot be turned back into your IP address.

If you ask us to email your result link

Before paying, you can enter an email address to get a link back to your scored test. We store that address with the attempt and send the link once. If you tick the reminder box, we send one reminder email the next day and then stop. The reminder has an unsubscribe link. We do not add this address to a newsletter.

When you buy your result

Checkout happens on Stripe's payment page. Stripe collects your payment details and your email address. We receive your email address and confirmation that the payment went through. We use your email to send you your result link and, if you write to us, to answer you. If you agree at checkout to receive updates from us, we may also email you occasionally, and every such email lets you unsubscribe. If you type a name for your certificate, we store it with your attempt so it can be printed on the certificate.

In your browser

We save your in-progress test and the key that opens your result in your browser's local storage, so a refresh does not lose your place and your result link keeps working on that device. You can clear it at any time in your browser settings.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to count visits and steps such as starting the test, finishing it and buying a result. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects information about your device and how you use the site. We use it only to understand how the site is used, not for advertising. You can block it with a browser extension or your browser's privacy settings and the site will still work.

When you email us

We keep the messages you send us so we can reply and keep a record of refunds and requests.

What we do not do

• We do not run ads or let advertisers track you on our site.
• We do not sell, rent or trade personal data.
• We do not ask for your address or phone number. The name and age range fields are optional.

How we use your data

• To score your test, show your result and email you your result link.
• To handle payments, refunds and support requests.
• To improve the test. We use response data, without your email attached, to refine how hard each kind of puzzle is. See how it works.
• To keep the service secure and stop abuse.

Who processes it for us

We use a small number of service providers, each only for the job described:

• Stripe processes payments and collects your payment details and email at checkout.
• Cloudflare hosts the site and handles the network traffic between you and us.
• Amazon Web Services stores test attempts in a database in the United States and delivers our emails.
• Google provides Google Analytics, described above.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, for example in response to a valid court order.

Sharing your result

Your result page has a share link. Anyone with that link can see your estimated IQ, percentile and curve, but not your section scores or your email. You can turn the share link off on your result page at any time.

How long we keep it

We keep attempt records so that your result link keeps working and so we can refine puzzle difficulty. If you ask us to delete your data, we delete your email address and the records tied to your attempt.

Your choices

You can ask us for a copy of the data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email support@iqoctopus.com from the address you used at checkout, or include your result link, so we can find your records. We do not charge for this.

Children

IQ Octopus is designed for adults and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us an email address, write to us and we will delete it.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS. Scoring happens on our servers, and result pages open only with a secret key that is created when you pay. No system is perfectly secure, but we keep what we store small on purpose.

Changes

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. If a change materially affects how we use data we already hold, we will email the people it affects.
